The City of Maple Ridge takes illegal dumping very seriously. Upon receiving reports of a junk disposal company dumping waste and hazardous materials in a forested area, City staff responded immediately to secure the site, assess the impacts, and begin clean-up.
After relocating the waste material to the Cottonwood landfill, City teams have issued a fine to the non-local business owner who has now collected and removed the waste material from the area. Bylaw staff will pursue all appropriate enforcement actions as required to ensure accountability.
Illegal dumping poses risks to the environment, wildlife, and community safety. It damages natural areas, creates fire hazards, and places additional costs on taxpayers for clean-up and enforcement. We ask residents to remain vigilant. If you see illegal dumping in progress, please call 604-463-9581 or 604-467-7305. If you discover dumped materials, report it through MapleRidge.ca/ReportConcern so staff can investigate and take action.
This incident is a reminder of the importance of responsible waste disposal. The City provides accessible options for proper disposal through the Maple Ridge Recycling and Waste Centre. Learn more at MapleRidge.ca/Waste
We thank the community for bringing these concerns forward quickly. Protecting our natural spaces is a shared responsibility, and community awareness plays a critical role in preventing and addressing illegal dumping.
