Environment Canada has issued a special weather for the region, including Maple Ridge. Thunderstorms and heavy downpours are expected this afternoon and tonight (Wednesday).
What:
- Thunderstorms
- Heavy downpours
- Strong wind gusts (up to 70 km/h)
- Small hail
Potential Hazards:
- Water pooling on roads
- Sudden reduction in visibility due to heavy rain
Be Prepared and Stay safe:
- Use caution near rivers/creeks — heavy rain can raise water levels
- Avoid forested areas during high winds
- When it thunders: head indoors, bring pets in and secure loose items.
- Gather supplies (food, water, flashlights, blankets & batteries) in case of a power outage
Additional information:
- The threat of thunderstorms will increase this afternoon as a warm front lifts across the area. After a brief break early this evening, a cold front will bring a widespread risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms to the south coast tonight, lasting into the overnight period.
