
Maple Ridge, B.C., Sept. 6, 2024 – From ziplines to children’s performers, families have plenty to look forward to at the Our Neck of the Woods festival in downtown Maple Ridge Sept. 14.
Commemorating Maple Ridge’s 150th anniversary, the festival will bring entertainers, food, fun and adventure to a huge TransLink Car Free Street Party encompassing Memorial Peace Park, 224 Street, 119 Avenue and McIntosh Avenue from noon to 10 p.m.
Most of the activities geared to families will take place from noon to 6 p.m., in addition to the Haney Farmers Market at Memorial Peace Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“This free family-friendly event has plenty of fun and exciting activities for kids and people of all ages,” said Maple Ridge Mayor Dan Ruimy. “Gather up the family, friends and neighbours and come on down to Our Neck of the Woods to be part of the largest birthday party in the City’s history.”
Soar Over Maple Ridge Zipline: Noon to 6 p.m.
Thrill-seekers will want to check out the Soar Over Maple Ridge Zipline presented by Brimming Development, running from noon to 6 p.m. This dual zipline will start at over three storeys up and offer a thrilling ride over 150 feet in length along 224 Street.
Donations by bank or credit card, cash and coins will be accepted to support the work of the Maple Ridge Community Foundation.
“This is the first-ever zipline in downtown Maple Ridge,” noted Mayor Ruimy. “What a great way to celebrate Maple Ridge 150 while supporting the incredible work of the Maple Ridge Community Foundation and showcasing all the great things about our community.”
Free Family Fun: Noon to 6 p.m.
- Katzie Canoe Family visual and performing arts, supported by LiUNA Local 1611
- Campfire Story Sessions, presented by Meadowridge School
- Bouncy Castle and Obstacle Adventure, presented by Ridge Meadows College
- Unveiling of neighbourhood Rock the Block murals created for Maple Ridge 150 by artist, Carly Bouwman.
Free Family Entertainment: 12:15-4:30 p.m.
One of the festival’s three stages will be dedicated to children and youth. The Kanaka Kids Stage, presented by Polygon Homes and Morningstar Homes, will feature:
- 12:15 p.m.: Family folk music by GinaLina, nominated for multiple JUNOS and Canadian Folk Music Awards
- 1:20 p.m.: Youth DJ showcase by TableTutors DJ Training Academy
- 2:30 pm: Journey Into Rhythm interactive show with Robin Layne, world-renowned performer and educator
- 3:30 pm: Youth DJ showcase by TableTutors DJ Training Academy
Families can also enjoy more than a dozen food trucks, all-ages beverage garden near the main stage, markets, and other adventures throughout the festival site.
Our Neck of the Woods Festival
Our Neck of the Woods will transform downtown Maple Ridge into a walkable festival zone with fun and adventure for all ages from noon to 10 p.m. on Sept. 14. Celebrate Maple Ridge’s 150th anniversary with live music on three stages, headliners Aaron Pritchett and the Strumbellas, free family activities including a zipline, vendors and displays, arts and culture, beverage gardens and the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival. Kick off the day at the Haney Farmers Market, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Memorial Peace Park.
