Maple Ridge, B.C., Oct. 9, 2026 – The City of Maple Ridge has completed two new public-art crosswalks at Memorial Peace Park, created by Maple Ridge Artist in Residence Colleen Brown.

Titled See You At The Park, the pair of vibrant crosswalk designs reflect the energy, colour and movement of one of Maple Ridge’s most active gathering places. The crosswalks welcome people approaching the park from the north and south, connecting residents and visitors to the festivals, markets, concerts and everyday activities that bring this signature park to life year-round.

The south crosswalk features cheerful spring pinks inspired by the flowers and rhododendrons in Memorial Peace Park. The north crosswalk uses cool greens inspired by the glass of the nearby tower, creating an evening counterpart to the south entrance design.

“Memorial Peace Park brings people together through so many lively community events,” said Brown. “The See You At The Park crosswalks reflect the joyful feeling and movement of the foot traffic during these events. Together, they celebrate movement, colour and community.”

Brown has served as one of the two Artists in Residence in Maple Ridge since 2023. Known primarily as a sculptor, her work explores the relationships of objects and materials to express our social relationships. Through the Artist in Residence program, Brown has worked with community members of all ages to create meaningful arts-based experiences and projects in Maple Ridge.

“The new crosswalks are another way the City is bringing public art into everyday spaces, creating unique and welcoming places for residents and visitors to experience,” said Chad Neufeld, Manager of Parks Planning and Development.

Artist in Residence Program

The Artist in Residence Program provides artists with an opportunity to lead arts-based community engagement projects that build community pride and animate neighbourhoods, public facilities and parks. In exchange for a minimum number of approved community engagement activities, artists receive live-work studio space for approximately three years. The program is managed by the City’s Recreation Services department.
