    Vancouver-based flutist Paolo Bortolussi joins the Bergmann Duo for a captivating programme featuring an enticing blend of different musical styles and genres reflective of the cultural influences from our musical pasts.

    A seminal work of the repertoire, Prokofiev’s Sonata for flute and piano in D Major will be featured alongside pieces by Astor Piazzolla’s suite, as well as some gems of traditional Irish and Canadian folk music - and more! 

    About the Artists

    The Bergmann Piano Duo’s dynamic and energetic performances of uniquely eclectic programmes have inspired audiences for more than two decades. The duo has appeared at several international festivals and performed recitals all around the world, including the United States, Italy, Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, and beyond. They have made recordings for the CBC, for several stations of the ARD in Germany and for National Public Radio. Committed to supporting the production of new repertoire, the duo has commissioned and premiered several works by Canadian composers. Their extensive repertoire ranges from the baroque to the contemporary and includes numerous own arrangements and compositions.

    Paolo Bortolussi has performed throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. As a specialist in contemporary music, Paolo is the flutist and co-artistic director of the Nu:BC Collective, a new music ensemble in residence at the University of British Columbia. To date he has premiered over one hundred and fifty solo, chamber, and orchestral works. Currently principal flutist with the Vancouver Island Symphony, Paolo has appeared as soloist on multiple occasions with the VIS, the Albany (NY) Symphony Orchestra and the Turning Point Ensemble. He holds a BMus degree in performance from the University of Ottawa as well as Masters and Doctoral degrees from Indiana University.
