Maple Ridge, B.C., Nov.6, 2026 – The City of Maple Ridge is advising residents, especially those living in flood prone and low-lying areas to take precautions as heavy rainfall continues.
The BC River Forecast Centre has expanded the High Streamflow Advisory to include Maple Ridge. River and creek levels are rising or may rise rapidly. While major flooding is not expected at this time, minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible, and fast-moving water can be dangerous.
Environment Canada and Climate Change Canada’s Yellow Rainfall Warning remains in effect, with total rainfall amounts of up to 80mm expected.
What the City is Doing
The City is actively monitoring conditions and taking proactive steps to prepare for the weather:
- Monitoring and forecasting: Using the City’s FlowWorks network of gauges and sensors to monitor water levels, in coordination with BC Hydro and provincial and federal agencies.
- Proactive mitigation: Clearing catch basins and culverts, street sweeping, and flushing storm mains to help improve water flow during heavy rainfall.
- Preparedness: Maintaining public education and readiness plans, with response resources on standby.
Sandbags Available
Filled sandbags are available for residents living in flood-prone areas at the City’s Operations Centre, located at 23925 Dewdney Trunk Road. Residents are encouraged to act early to help protect homes and businesses. Sandbags can help divert water away from buildings, garages and entry points, reducing the risk of flood damage. Please take only what you need. Supplies will be replenished as required.
What Residents Can Do
Residents are encouraged to take the following precautions:
- Clear leaves and debris from gutters, catch basins and storm drains near your home to help keep water moving.
- Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flooded areas.
- Stay well back from rivers and creeks during and after stormy conditions. Banks can be unstable and water levels can change quickly.
- Keep pets leashed and small children closely supervised near fast-moving water.
- Secure outdoor furniture, equipment and loose items.
- Move valuables from basements or other low-lying areas where possible.
- Check on neighbours who may need assistance.
- Do not drive through flooded roads or road closures. Driving through water can damage nearby properties and poses serious safety risks.
- Follow all barricades and closures around roads, riverside parks and trails.
For Pets, Horses and Livestock
- Plan ahead to move animals to higher ground or another safe location if needed.
- Ensure animals have access to food, water and transportation.
- Do not leave animals in low-lying or flood-prone areas.

BC Hydro Alouette Dam Monitoring and Spill Notices
BC Hydro closely manages water levels at Alouette Lake Reservoir and may adjust water releases as conditions change. During periods of heavy or prolonged rainfall, inflows to the reservoir can increase quickly. If BC Hydro needs to release water to manage reservoir levels safely, it will notify local governments and stakeholders through a spill notice or flood alert. The City is in contact with BC Hydro and will share updates with residents if a spill notice or flood alert is issued. Residents can also call BC Hydro’s water level information line at 604-462-5409 for updates.
