Otherworldly Soundscapes
PIQSIQ is a 2026 JUNO-nominated Inuit throat singing duo composed of sisters Tiffany Ayalik and Inuksuk Mackay.
Using only their vocals and live looping techniques, the duo perform katajjaq, Inuit throat-singing, to create spellbinding soundscapes that evoke the haunting darkness of Arctic winters. Together, the duo transforms ancestral storytelling traditions into original compositions shaped by their signature haunting tone.
In Inuktitut, a “piqsiq” is a windstorm that conjures the impression of snow falling back up towards the sky. This otherworldly phenomenon has become a source of inspiration for the duo, reminding that things are not always as they seem.
