Trees are an important part of Maple Ridge’s urban landscape and play a key role in community health, livability, and climate resilience.
From the urban centre and residential neighbourhoods, to parks and farmland, trees help clean air and water, cool streets and buildings, support biodiversity, and enhance recreation.
Bylaw Updates
As part of our ongoing commitment to urban forest management, Council has adopted amendments to the Tree Protection and Management Bylaw. The proposed changes reflect community feedback and aim to better protect mature trees, clarify removal and replacement requirements, modernize permitting, and strengthen compliance. Urban Forest Management
As climate change and growth put pressure on Maple Ridge’s urban forest, the City is taking action through policies, planning, and services. The Urban Forest Management Plan provides a 20-year strategy to protect and expand the urban forest and reach a 40% tree canopy target in urban areas by 2050. This includes key measures such as the Tree Protection and Management Bylaw, tree permits, and street tree management.
