
Moment of Silence will take place at noon at City facilities and Book of Condolences Available
In recognition of the Province of B.C. declaring Thursday, February 12, 2026, a province-wide day of mourning following the tragic events in Tumbler Ridge, the City of Maple Ridge invites the community to come together in reflection and remembrance.
Moment of silence (12:00 p.m.)
At 12:00 p.m., the B.C. Legislature will observe a moment of silence. City of Maple Ridge facilities will also mark a moment of silence at 12:00 p.m. at City facilities. Residents are encouraged to pause wherever they are at that time to honour the lives lost and hold in our thoughts everyone impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy.
Books of Condolences (through February 17)
Books of Condolences will be available during regular operating hours at the reception area for anyone who wishes to share a message until Tuesday, February 17:
- The ACT Arts Centre, 11944 Haney Place
- Albion Community Centre, 24165 104 Ave.
The books will be sent to the District of Tumbler Ridge along with a letter from Mayor and Council.
“On behalf of City Council, staff, and our residents, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “Our thoughts are with the students, faculty, family members, and everyone impacted by this tragedy. In times like this, we are reminded that community matters and empathy and strength carry us forward. Maple Ridge stands in solidarity with Tumbler Ridge. We’re also deeply grateful for the first responders, school staff, and health care workers for their bravery, compassion, and dedication.”

Flags at all City of Maple Ridge facilities continue to be flown at half-mast until sunset on February 17, 2026, in honour of the lives lost.
