Swimming Lessons

If no prerequisite is recorded in the system, visit the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre during public swim times for a free lesson evaluation. Check in with our Customer Experience team at the front desk and they will connect you with a member of our Aquatics Team!

Please note: anyone under the age of eight (8) will need an adult (16 years or older) in the water with them during the assessment.

For participants currently enrolled in a lesson set, final outcomes by progress cards are provided at the conclusion of the program. Your instructor will share the final evaluation and outcome on the last day of lessons.

Our traditional swim lessons follow a seasonal schedule, and Aqua Academy runs continuously from September to June with no need to re-register seasonally. Aqua Academy focuses on individual progress, with ongoing evaluation, meaning swimmers are taught where they are in their skill development rather than strictly by level.

To register for Aqua Academy, email Swim@MapleRidge.ca. Use "AQAC" as the subject line followed by the participants first and last name. In the body of the email, please include:

• The day and time you are interested in registering for
• The last swim level your child completed
• Attach the completed Aqua Academy Registration Form

Registration requests are processed in the order received based on the email timestamp. Messages must be sent to Swim@MapleRidge.ca, registration requests sent to any other email address will not be considered.

All details pertaining to your registration will be communicated by email.

Prior to submitting your registration ensure you have an up-to-date credit card saved on your Xplor account. This can be done online via your registration account or over the phone by calling our registration team at 604-467-7422. Aqua Academy fees are charged monthly, based on the number of sessions per month. Once your registration has been confirmed you will be sent a pre-authorized payment form to be completed prior to the start of the first session. Failure to sign the authorization form will result in de-registration from the program.

Aqua Academy is scheduled with a consistent instructor. There could be occasional substitutions based on extenuating circumstances.

Yes, there will be no lessons during spring break, winter break, summer break, and statutory holidays.

Your instructor will evaluate your child consistently and provide updates on their skill development and progression. Once your child has completed a level, they will receive a progress card to recognize their achievement. Swimmer levels will receive a badge (and progress card) for the level completed.

Aqua Academy is designed to support continuous skill progression, so participants don't simply repeat the entire program if they haven't mastered all skills. Instead, swimmers are evaluated on an ongoing basis and move through the appropriate levels at a pace that reflects their skill development.

The program is taught as part of a continuous learning structure, and allows participants to progress as they're ready. This means swimmers continue to receive instruction and feedback targeted to where they are in their development, helping them build confidence and improve over time.

To transfer from Aqua Academy to seasonal swim lessons, please email your request to withdraw from Aqua Academy before the scheduled payment date for the upcoming month. Once your withdrawal is confirmed, you may register for seasonal swim lessons online through our registration system.

Yes, you can withdraw, however, refunds and cancellations follow our Refund/Cancellation Policy. To be eligible for a refund, withdrawal request must be submitted by email before the scheduled payment date for the upcoming month. For example, to receive a refund for October lessons, your withdrawal must be processed before September 1.

Refunds will not be pro‑rated once monthly fees have been processed, and non‑attendance does not qualify as a withdrawal or refund request.

Aqua Academy runs in alignment with the traditional school year. At the end of the program in June, all participants will be evaluated and assigned the appropriate swim level they have achieved. At that time, you can choose to either register for traditional swimming lessons or remain Aqua Academy again for the following school year. 

Our team will reach out to participants at least 4 weeks before the end of the school year to ask about your intent to remain registered for the upcoming school year (Fall). We will also contact waitlist participants if spots become available for the following school year.
