Starting January 1, 2025, Ridge Meadows Recycling Society transitioned curbside and multi-family recycling collection to Recycle BC, the non-profit organization that delivers the provincial government’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Program to municipalities.
This service is free to residents, as the program is funded by businesses that supply packaging and paper products to BC residents, shifting recycling costs away from homeowners. Recycle BC informed the City their Recycle BC’s contractor, Remple Disposal Ltd., was unable to pick up paper, container, and glass recycling from all homes scheduled for collection yesterday. Flexible plastic routes were fully completed.
Recycle BC issued a service alert through their App last night advising affected residents to place their recycling boxes and bags out for collection today, Friday, January 3. They are working overtime to pick up missed collections and apologize for any inconvenience.
Service Schedule:
For the initial transition, Recycle BC aligned its service schedule with the schedule that Ridge Meadows Recycling Society had previously communicated; in particular, that there would not be collection on statutory holidays.
Recycle BC plans to switch to a four-day collection schedule in July 2025, which will include a system that ensures statutory holidays are made up rather than skipped.
