Maple Ridge, B.C., Nov. 4, 2026 — The City of Maple Ridge officially inaugurated its new Mayor and Council on the evening of Nov. 3 at The ACT Arts Centre.

Mayor Jerry Kok and Councillors Korleen Carreras, Bob D’Eith, Judy Dueck, Andrew Laity, Chelsa Meadus and Mike Morden took their Oaths of Office, formally beginning their four-year term serving the community.

The inaugural meeting opened with a procession led by a piper, alongside RCMP and Maple Ridge Fire Rescue Services honour guards. The Honourable Judge Gregory Brown administered the Oaths of Office.

“Tonight, I stand before you incredibly grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me,” said Mayor Kok in his inaugural address. “I’m excited about this Council, our community and what we can accomplish working together. We are committed to moving Maple Ridge forward while protecting what makes it special and building a future where our kids see opportunity, businesses want to invest, families feel safe, and people can find a home they can afford.”

Mayor Kok also recognized the contributions of the previous Mayor and Council members.

“I want to recognize Mayor Ruimy, Councillors Dozie, Schiller and Tan and thank them for their service to Maple Ridge,” said Mayor Kok. “Each of you stepped forward to serve this community, and that deserves our respect and appreciation. Thank you for your commitment to Maple Ridge.”

Council is the City’s governing body. It makes decisions collectively, through majority vote, and sets priorities for Maple Ridge. Council adopts bylaws and policies, approves budgets, and guides decisions on City services, infrastructure, growth and community investment. Council is responsible for good local government, protecting public assets and supporting the community’s economic, social and environmental well-being. City staff provide professional advice to Council and implement the policies, budgets and direction approved by Council.

“Council’s job is to bring people together, remove barriers where we can, make responsible decisions and create the conditions that allow our community to succeed,” said Mayor Kok. “Our new Council brings different perspectives to the table, but one thing we share is our commitment to the community. Seven people. Seven perspectives. Seven different life experiences. But one responsibility: leave Maple Ridge better than we found it.”

Over the next week, Mayor and Council will participate in orientation sessions to support their transition into office and build their understanding of City operations, services, governance responsibilities, and key community priorities.

The Mayor also emphasized that respectful discussion and public participation will be important throughout the term.

“We will show up. We will listen. We will ask the tough questions. We will respect the people who disagree with us. And we will never forget who we work for,” said Mayor Kok. “We work for you — the people of Maple Ridge.”

The new Council’s first Committee of the Whole meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 10 at 11 a.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 11995 Haney Place. The next Regular Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17 at 7 p.m.

Council meetings are open to the public and can be viewed online and highlights are shared on the City’s Facebook page. The Mayor’s inaugural address, Council biographies, meeting schedules, agendas and webcast information are available at MapleRidge.ca/CouncilMeeting.
