Maple Ridge, B.C., Sept. 21, 2026 – The City of Maple Ridge is inviting the community to celebrate a major milestone as the Greg Moore Youth Centre (GMYC) marks 25 years of supporting local youth and families on Friday, Oct. 2.
Since opening its doors in 2001, GMYC has provided a welcoming place for young people to connect, build confidence and skills, take part in programs, and create lasting memories.
The anniversary celebration will bring together youth, families, alumni, community partners and staff to recognize the Centre’s history and its ongoing role in the community.
The celebration takes place at the GMYC (11925 Haney Place) and will begin with an all-ages open house from 3 to 6 p.m. including remarks from the Mayor and past and present youth members. Community members can explore the Centre, connect with staff and community partners, enjoy a barbecue (starting 5 p.m.), and learn more about current youth programs. A youth celebration will follow from 6 to 9:30 p.m., with games, prizes, activities and other surprises.
“Twenty-five years ago, the Greg Moore Youth Centre opened as a place for young people to feel connected, supported and included,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “It has grown into an important community space that makes a real difference in the lives of many Maple Ridge residents. I encourage everyone to come out and help celebrate the people, programs and memories that have shaped the Centre over the past 25 years.”
Developed through a youth-led community process, the two-storey 16,000 facility was among the first of its kind as a dedicated youth recreation space. The GMYC continues to offer drop-in activities, registered programs and opportunities for young people, including a rock-climbing wall, bouldering wall, indoor skateboard and scooter park, podcast room, multi-sport court/lounge with foosball, ping pong, billiards, air hockey, board games, and video games.
The Centre has received several awards, including the B.C. Parks and Recreation Facility of the Year Award and a Child and Youth Friendly Community Award for innovation.
“For 25 years, the Greg Moore Youth Centre has been a place where youth can be themselves, try new things and build meaningful connections,” said Tara Berdej, Recreation Manager. “This celebration is an opportunity to recognize everyone who has helped make the Centre what it is today, while welcoming a new generation of youth through our doors.”
Residents of all ages are encouraged to attend and help celebrate 25 years of youth engagement, community connection and positive experiences at the Greg Moore Youth Centre.
