Maple Ridge is reminding residents that the City’s Local General Election will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, and is encouraging voters to stay informed and engaged as a simultaneous provincial election campaign gets underway.
Overlapping election campaigns create risk of confusion for voters about provincial versus municipal candidates, issues, and voting opportunities. The City is also concerned that competing campaign messages and multiple voting events could contribute to election fatigue at a time when Maple Ridge voters have important local decisions to make.
“Voters will see and hear a great deal of election information in the coming weeks, and we don’t want the overlap to cause confusion on when, where or how to vote,” said Carolyn Mushata, Director of Legislative Services and Chief Election Officer. “It is important that Maple Ridge residents know the local election is separate from any provincial election, with its own candidates, voting opportunities, ballots and questions for voters to consider. Voters can visit MapleRidge.ca/GoVote for information about the local general election.”
In the 2026 Local General Election, Maple Ridge voters will elect:
- One Mayor
- Six Councillors
- Five School Trustees for School District No. 42
Those elected will serve a four-year term, from November 2026 to October 2030.
Maple Ridge voters will also be asked three separate assent vote questions about proposed long-term borrowing for Recreation Ready projects:
- Hammond Aquatics and Recreation Centre
- Hammond Multi-Use Community Park
- Albion Twin-Rink Arena Expansion
Each assent vote question will be decided separately and will pass if more than 50 per cent of valid votes cast are Yes.
“Local elections directly shape decisions that affect daily life in Maple Ridge, including local services, infrastructure, parks and recreation, public safety, transportation and community planning,” Mushata said. “This year, voters also have important decisions to make on the proposed Recreation Ready projects. We encourage residents to take the time to review the information, know their voting options and participate in the local election.”
Know which election you are voting in
The City of Maple Ridge is responsible for administering the local election, including voting for Mayor, Council, School Trustees and the three local assent vote questions. The City provides information about local candidates, eligibility, voting locations, advance voting, mail ballots and the assent vote process at MapleRidge.ca/GoVote or by email at Election@MapleRidge.ca.
Elections BC is responsible for administering the provincial election taking place on Oct. 24. Information about provincial candidates, voter registration, voting places and provincial voting options is available at elections.bc.ca. Residents should check whether information they receive relates to the Maple Ridge local election or the provincial election, as each election has separate ballots, candidates, voting locations and voting dates.
Make a plan to vote
Maple Ridge residents have three ways to vote in the 2026 Local General Election:
Vote by mail
Eligible voters can apply for a mail ballot now, which will be available for pick up in early October. Completed mail ballots must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, to be counted.
Vote in Advance from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m on following dates:
- Wednesday, Oct. 7 - Albion Community Centre (24165 104 Ave.) or St. Luke’s Hall (20285 Dewdney Trunk Rd.)
- Saturday, Oct. 10 - Ridge Meadows Seniors Activity Centre (12150 224 St.)
- Wednesday, Oct. 14 - Albion Community Centre or St. Luke’s Hall
- Thursday, Oct. 15 - Albion Community Centre, St. Luke’s Hall or Fraserview Village Hall (22610 116 Ave.)
Vote on General Voting Day – Sat., Oct. 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m at:
- Whonnock Elementary School – 27471 112 Ave.
- Garibaldi Secondary School – 24789 Dewdney Trunk Rd.
- Albion Community Centre – 24165 104 Ave.
- Yennadon Elementary School – 23347 128 Ave.

A voter information mailout will be delivered to Maple Ridge households during the week of Sept. 28. It will include local election voting information, details on the assent vote process and information about the proposed Recreation Ready projects. Eligible residents who are not on the Provincial List of Voters may register when voting by providing two pieces of identification that show their name and residential address.
