Sign up to Stay Informed and Be Prepared During an Emergency
Maple Ridge, B.C., May 12, 2026 – Maple Ridge is updating its alert system and improving how residents receive emergency alerts and day-to-day notices with the launch of the Alertable system.
All City notifications were previously delivered through a single system under the Alert Maple Ridge umbrella, from emergencies like fires and floods to non-urgent day-to-day issues like facility or road closures.
Starting Oct. 1, City-issued emergency alerts and day-to-day notices will be delivered by two different services, clearly distinguishing urgent notifications from routine ones:
- The Alertable app for emergencies: Residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up now for Alertable, branded as Alert Maple Ridge, to immediately start receiving City-issued emergency alerts and localized instructions related to fires, floods, earthquakes, severe weather, evacuation notices and other hazards.
- City website and Voyent Alert app for routine City notices: Non-emergency notices about City facilities, roads, traffic and services will continue to be delivered through the website and Voyent Alert app. The Alert Maple Ridge branding previously included these services but will now only apply to Alertable.
The transition will take place over several months. Between now and Oct. 1, City-issued emergency alerts will be issued through both Alertable and the existing website/Voyent Alert services.
Residents and businesses currently receiving emergency alerts through the website or Voyent Alert app must sign up for Alertable by Oct. 1 to continue receiving emergency notifications.
This change reflects community feedback requesting more choice and clarity in City notifications, and aligns the City’s tools with those used in other areas of the region and province.
What residents and businesses need to do by Oct. 1
To continue receiving emergency alerts after Oct. 1:
- Download the free Alertable app through your smartphone app store or at Sign Up for Alertable
- Customize alert settings and select Maple Ridge as your location
If you have not yet signed up to receive non-emergency updates through Voyent Alert, such as road and facility closures, visit MapleRidge.ca/Connect. Customize your settings for the types of notices you want to receive and how you want to receive them.
Residents who require alternative ways to receive emergency alerts, including phone or text notifications, can contact the Maple Ridge Emergency Program at EmergencyProgram@MapleRidge.ca.
About Alertable
Alertable is a free, opt-in emergency notification service used by organizations including Environment Canada, DriveBC, public health authorities, the RCMP, and more than 1,300 communities across Canada, including many in Metro Vancouver and B.C.
By adopting the same platform, Maple Ridge can provide more timely and coordinated emergency information alongside provincial and national alerts during major incidents.
Importantly, Alertable works alongside systems such as Alert Ready during large-scale emergencies to provide localized instructions and updates directly from the City’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) that are not provided by broader regional alerts.
Alertable was developed by Public Emergency Alerting Services Inc., a Canadian company specializing in public safety communications. The platform allows users to:
- Select multiple locations such as home, work, or family members’ residences
- Customize alert types and severity levels
- Features such as language translation, roaming alerts, and silent-mode override to help ensure critical emergency information is received when needed most.
The launch of Alertable is part of the City’s broader emergency preparedness efforts, which include public education, staff and volunteer training, resource planning, and Emergency Support Services (ESS).
