
Maple Ridge, B.C., Nov. 18, 2024 – The City of Maple Ridge is advising residents to prepare for a significant storm set to impact the region from Tuesday through Wednesday bringing strong winds, heavy rainfall and snowfall at higher elevations.
What to Expect
- Winds: Gusty winds up to 50–70 km/h, potentially reaching 90 km/h in some areas.
- Rainfall: Significant rainfall of 50–75 mm
- High tides and water levels: Storm surge flooding may occur during Tuesday and Wednesday's king tide cycle, with elevated tides peaking Wednesday morning.
- Snowfall: Freezing levels will drop below 1,000 m, leading to substantial snowfall at higher elevations.

- Downed trees and branches leading to property damage, utility outages and road blockages
- Hazardous travel conditions
- Transit disruptions
- Localized flooding, high streamflow and high-water levels near coastal water
City Response Measures
The City is taking the following measures to prepare for the storm and mitigate potential impacts:
- Monitoring weather forecasts and high-risk areas, including rivers, creeks, and culverts, to mitigate flooding risks and are ready to respond if conditions worsen
- Conducting regular inspections of critical infrastructure, including bridges, dikes, and drains.
- Clearing storm drains and ensuring key roadways remain accessible to keep travel safe
- Testing backup power generators to ensure functionality

- Secure Items: Secure loose outdoor objects like patio furniture
- Be Prepared for Utility Outages: Charge mobile devices and have a flashlight ready
- Stay Alert Near Water and Trails: Use caution around rivers, creeks, and culverts; watch for washouts and fallen trees
- Stay Clear of Downed Power Lines: Stay at least 10m away. Report issues to BC Hydro at 1-800-224-9376 or *HYDRO (*49376)
- Follow Road Closure Signs: Avoid driving through flood waters to reduce risk and prevent damage
- Prepare an Emergency Kit: Have supplies to last your household 3–7 days.
