Maple Ridge, B.C., May 26, 2026 – The City of Maple Ridge is pleased to announce Next Generation: Art by SD42 Secondary Students, a biannual exhibition at The ACT Art Gallery featuring works created by secondary students in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

Developed in collaboration with School District 42 visual arts teachers, the exhibition supports students in their creation of original artworks for a large group exhibition and highlights the talent of emerging youth artists in the community. More than 100 SD42 students submitted pieces that share a personal glimpse of their ideas, interests, perspectives, and experiences.

The exhibition features a wide range of artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, digital illustration, photography, ceramics, sculpture, fibre art, woodwork and mixed media.

On Saturday, May 30 from 12pm-4pm, the public is invited to attend a free opening reception to celebrate alongside the artists.

Exhibition Dates: Saturday, May 30 – Saturday, June 20, 2026
Regular Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00am to 4:00pm and selected evenings.
Location: The ACT Art Gallery (at The ACT Arts Centre), 11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, BC

“I always look forward to the SD42 exhibition,” says Courtney Miller, Gallery Manager and Curator. “The students put so much time and care into their artworks, and the SD42 teachers provide generous support to make the exhibition come to life.”

Many of the students who submit artwork to the biannual SD42 exhibition are preparing for post-secondary programs and careers in creative fields. The ACT Art Gallery provides an opportunity for students to showcase their artwork in a professional space.

2026 participating schools include: Garibaldi Secondary, Maple Ridge Secondary, Maple Ridge Christian, Pitt Meadows Secondary, Samuel Robertson Technical, Thomas Haney Secondary, and Westview Secondary.
