Improvements to include expanded playground and spray park
Maple Ridge, BC – October 29, 2025 – The City of Maple Ridge has launched the second phase of public engagement for planned improvements at Volker Park, inviting residents to review and provide feedback on the proposed design to create a more welcoming and inclusive space for residents.
The new design was developed in response to community input received during the first phase of engagement in spring 2025, which helped shape plans for a new playground and identified strong community interest in developing a spray park at Volker Park, the highest-ranked option among survey respondents.
Why are the Updates Needed?
The original playground at Volker Park was significantly vandalized in January 2025, requiring a full replacement.
The proposed concept includes a more modern, inclusive playground and also adds features that were identified by the community as priorities, such as a spray park, picnic shelter, washroom, and parking area. Accessibility features include paved pathways, accessible play elements, barrier-free spray park surfacing, and a wheelchair-accessible washroom.
Volker Park is a suitable location for a new spray park due to its central location on the west side of the city, size, and access to necessary servicing and open space. Upgrades to existing parks, such as Volker Park, allow the City to better serve the changing needs of the community.
