
Traffic & Service Advisory – Watermain Break at Lougheed Hwy & 203 Street
Update # 4 - 1:30 pm, September 15
The City completed emergency repair work at Lougheed Highway and 203 Street following this weekend’s watermain break that ruptured a natural gas line and required overnight work by City crews, Maple Ridge Fire Rescue, and FortisBC.
All traffic lanes have been reopened. Water service was restored to affected properties, and the natural gas line was repaired on Sunday morning. Permanent paving work will be scheduled this week.
“I want to thank our Operations and Fire Rescue crews who worked around the clock, along with our partners at FortisBC to safely restore water, gas, and traffic in one of the busiest corridors of our city,” said Walter Oleschuk, the City’s Chief Operating Officer. “Thank you also to our community for their patience and cooperation while this emergency work was underway. We are pleased to confirm that all systems are back to normal.”
The City extends its appreciation to residents, businesses, and commuters for their understanding during the temporary closures.
Update #3 – 6:30 am, September 14
City crews worked overnight at Lougheed Hwy & 203 Street to complete emergency watermain break repairs.
Progress Update
- The watermain has been repaired and water service restored to affected properties.
- FortisBC has completed gas line repairs.
- Roads crews have finished temporary roadwork and are cleaning up the area.
Traffic Update
- Lougheed Hwy will reopen by 7:00 am. The curb merge lane will remain closed until further notice for final repairs, but traffic is expected to flow.
- Maple Meadows Way is open.

Update #2 – 3:15 pm September 13
City crews, Fire Department and Fortis BC remain on scene responding to a watermain break at Lougheed Hwy (eastbound) & 203 Street that ruptured a natural gas line.
- The watermain has been partially closed and affected properties have been notified.
- Lougheed Hwy eastbound is closed at Maple Meadows Way.
- Maple Meadows Way northbound is closed.
- Traffic delays are expected — please plan alternate routes and follow road signs and crew instructions.
