
Environment Canada and the BC River Forecast Centre have issued a Rainfall Warning for the region, including Maple Ridge.
Weather Update
- Another Atmospheric River event will skirt our region, bringing heavy rain through Saturday morning.
- 30 - 50mm of precipitation is likely with high rainfall rates of up to 10mm per hour at times.
- Winds are forecast to be relatively light between 20 - 30km/h.
- Weather Advisories and Flood Advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
River Update
- A moderate flood hazard exists for the entire south coast over the next 72 hours. localized flooding, washouts, and hazardous driving conditions are possible.
- An increase in freezing levels accompanying the storm may bolster runoff with rain-on-snow adding to streamflow's.
City crews are:
Inspecting, clearing and preparing city infrastructure like drainage systems, culverts and pump stations,
Monitoring conditions closely and will be ready to respond as needed. Sandbags will be made available for residents in flood-prone areas if the risk for flooding increases. Locations will be shared if they are deployed.
Residents are advised to:
Clear leaves from catch basins & drains near your home to reduce localized flooding
Drive carefully and give yourself extra travel time/distance
Stay clear of fast-flowing rivers, creeks & unstable banks – keep kids & pets close
