Maple Ridge, B.C., July 23, 2026 — The City of Maple Ridge has renewed the Downtown Business Improvement Area for another six years, supporting continued programs and services for downtown businesses through the Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association (DMRBIA).
Council unanimously adopted the Maple Ridge Downtown Business Improvement Area Establishment Bylaw at its July 14 regular meeting, following the legislated petition process. The renewed term runs from Jan. 1, 2027, to Dec. 31, 2032.
The City’s annual grant to the DMRBIA is fully funded through a levy on commercial properties within the Downtown Business Improvement Area. The new bylaw increases the annual grant and expands the levy to all downtown commercial properties, ensuring the DMRBIA has the resources needed to continue serving and supporting its members now and into the future.
“The Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association plays an important role in supporting local businesses and helping create a welcoming, vibrant downtown,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “This renewal gives the association the stability to keep delivering programs and services that benefit businesses, property owners, and the wider community.”
Established in 2007, the DMRBIA is a local non-profit society dedicated to making Downtown Maple Ridge a place where businesses thrive and the community comes alive. Through advocacy, promotion, beautification, and support to their more than 730 members, the DMRBIA helps strengthen a vibrant and resilient Downtown business community.
“This six-year renewal gives us the certainty to plan ahead and continue investing in programs that support our members and strengthen the downtown experience,” said Nicole Archer, Executive Director of the DMRBIA.
Business Improvement Areas are established under provincial legislation to support defined commercial areas through services and programs funded by participating property owners. In Maple Ridge, the renewed Downtown Business Improvement Area will continue to provide a framework for coordinated investment in Downtown’s vitality and long-term success.
