The City of Maple Ridge uses an applicant tracking system for candidates wishing to view available career opportunities and apply for currently posted positions.

Applicants must apply online for posted jobs using our career portal. Everyone who applies for a position with The City of Maple Ridge is required to create an applicant profile and complete an online application,including answering any pre-screening questions and uploading their resume and cover letter.

1. Candidate Screening - Applicants are screened through a series of online questions and a resume and cover letter review.
2. Candidate Assessment - Short-listed applicants are advanced to an assessment phase, which may include skill testing, presentations, and interviews. 
3. Background Checks - The top candidate will go through relevant background checks, which may include references, security, and driving records. 
4. Onboarding - If you accept the employment offer, you will receive an onboarding email to complete new hire paperwork and online training.
5. Employment Offer - The successful candidate will be provided a written offer letter digitally for acceptance.

We have a variety of flexible work schedule programs and pilots for eligible employees, such as earned days off, job sharing, compressed work weeks, and varied shift schedules. We have a telework policy for our employees in our CUPE and Exempt groups that allows remote work up to 3 days a week if deemed operationally feasible.

We participate in the Municipal Pension Plan, in which eligible employees in the CUPE, IAFF, and Exempt groups are enrolled as described in their relevant collective agreement. 

We offer several paid and unpaid time-off options to support our employees, including vacation, lieu-time, sick leave, and leaves of absence. 

We have two collective agreements describing our union employees' employment conditions. These collective agreements are for CUPE Local 622 and IAFF Local 4449. 

The City has various jobs including administrative, operational, technical, professional, and leadership roles. The City has a variety of permanent, temporary, and auxiliary positions.

You must apply online. We are located next to a public library if you need access to a computer to submit your application.

No, all candidates must apply through our online Career Portal. We do not accept resumes via email, fax or in person. If you do not have access to a computer, one is provided in City Hall or at the public library.

A valid email address is a requirement to successfully create your unique profile and apply for positions at the City. You can set up a free email address using many public websites such as Outlook, Gmail and Yahoo. These can be set up and accessed from any computer.

You can resubmit application by applying online again.

You cannot make changes to an existing application, however you can add additional documents by emailing the Human Resources Department at hrenquiries@mapleridge.ca.  An HR representative will be able to assist with attaching an additional document if requested.

Depending on the position, you may also be asked to submit transcripts, a driver's abstract and samples of your work.

As the hiring manager differs per competition, it is best to address your cover letter in generic terms such as “Hiring Committee”, “Human Resources” or “To whom this may concern”. Please be sure to include the Competition Number (i.e. 20) noted on the posting.

There are several potential steps in the recruitment process:

Candidate resumes are screened and those selected for an interview are contacted. You may receive a telephone interview or a face-to-face interview.

Testing and/or presentations may also be required depending on the opportunity. For all administrative positions, additional testing may be required.

If you are a preferred candidate then you will proceed with reference checking. However, reference checking will not be done without your consent. You will be required to complete a reference consent form and provide contact information for three professional references.

Verifications of qualifications may also be completed.

What can I expect during the Interview?

Our interviews are structured around behavioural-based and technical questions, and may consist of or two or more interviewers. We also appreciate that through the interview process, candidates are assessing us as a potential employer and therefore we enjoy taking the time to answer any questions candidates may have about working at the City.

Why are some openings not posted on the Careers page?

The City is committed to finding the best person to fill open positions. If an opportunity arises for which it is believed we have a qualified internal candidate, the posting may not appear on the Municipal Website.
