132 Ave/Fern Crescent Multi-Use Pathway and Intersection Improvements
The City of Maple Ridge plans to upgrade the active transportation facilities on 132 Avenue and Fern Crescent between 232 Street and 236 Street to create a safer and more enjoyable experience for pedestrians and cyclists along this corridor. The project will also include upgrades on Balsam Street and 236 Street and improvements to the Fern Crescent/236 Street intersection. Construction is anticipated to begin in late summer of 2022.
The project will include:
3 m–wide multi-use pathway on the south side of 132 Avenue/Fern Crescent
Paved pathway linking Balsam Street to 132 Avenue and 236 Street to Fern Crescent
Pedestrian/cycling crossings along the corridor
Improved bus stop on Fern Crescent
What Will this Project Achieve?
Healthier travel options that are better for the environment
The addition of multi-use paths for walking and cycling will eventually link to a network connecting Silver Valley to downtown Maple Ridge. The multi-use path will provide cycling facilities that are separated from traffic and the pedestrian crossings will provide access to Maple Ridge Park from several locations on 132 Avenue and Fern Crescent. The project’s upgrades will improve fish and riparian habitats along 236 Street as well as manage stormwater.
Improved neighbourhood access
The new multi-use path will provide easier and safer access to parks, schools, recreation, transit and other amenities. Improvements will include street/pathway lighting, pedestrian/cyclist crossings and bus stop improvements. The multi-use path will enable users to park their cars in the parking lot adjacent to 132 Avenue and access Maple Ridge park, Maple Ridge Dog Park and Cross’s Cabin Park on foot or by cycle.
