What is a StoryWalk® ?
It is a movement and literacy boosting project that places an illustrated children’s book, taken apart and displayed page by page, along a walking route in your community.
Who created StoryWalks® ? Or where did the StoryWalk project originate?
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
How did StoryWalk® begin in Maple Ridge?
In a unique partnership with funding from Envision Financial, the Maple Ridge Public Library and City of Maple Ridge have worked to bring StoryWalk® to life in Maple Ridge with the joint goal of combining a lifelong love for literacy while encouraging activity, movement and family time in nature.
How did you choose the parks for this year’s StoryWalk®?
We looked for three parks in different parts of the community that were accessible by bus, had parking options, enough space for the layout, and were in high visibility locations.
Can I sign out these books from our local library?
Yes, Maple Ridge Library (FVRL) has brought in several copies of these books so you can check them out.
How did you choose the books for this year’s StoryWalk®?
We looked for stories that were current, engaging for a wide variety of readers, and that created good conversations or were lots of fun!
