Father's Day Fish Release

Sunday, June 18, 2017

In the last 90 years, the Alouette Chinook salmon has had no access to its traditional spawning grounds to the upper Alouette watershed due to the completion of the Alouette Dam in 1928. The Alouette River Management Society partners with ALLCO Fish Hatchery to run an annual Father's Day Fish Release event where families can join us at Maple Ridge Park to release 5,000 chinook salmon fry! This annual event lends a helping hand to the next generation of Alouette River Chinook salmon, raises awareness about the lifecycle of this iconic fish and the pressures facing them. All ages are welcome and everyone will have the opportunity to release a 6-month old Chinook salmon into the South Alouette River to begin its journey to the sea. The Alouette River Management Society and BC Corrections staff will be on hand to answer questions, provide information and assist with the release of the salmon.
