Maple Ridge, B.C., June 4, 2024 – Maple Ridge residents, businesses, and organizations are invited to help shape the City’s first-ever Community Engagement Framework by sharing how they prefer to provide feedback, receive information, and learn about City services.

The community engagement framework supports the City’s goal of being an open and engaged organization. It will ensure how, when, and why the City engages with the public is consistent, transparent, and accessible so that diverse perspectives are considered in decision-making.

About the Community Engagement Framework

The engagement framework will be developed over the year based on the established practices of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), which considers a spectrum of public participation levels ranging from informing to empowering people in decisions that affect their lives.

The framework will:

  • Guide how the City designs, plans, and implements engagement with the community.
  • Provide clear criteria for what level of public participation will be involved in decision making.
  • Provide a consistent approach to how the City engages with community members.
  • Foster inclusiveness to increase participation from diverse voices.
  • Provide staff with tools and resources to plan engagement processes that allow diverse and meaningful opportunities to participate in decision-making.

“We are excited to get this work underway as a key priority for our Council is to provide meaningful opportunities for our community to have their say and for our decision-making processes to be clear and transparent,” said Mayor Ruimy. “We want to hear from diverse voices to understand what’s important to you when it comes to community engagement, any challenges you face, and how you want to have your say.”

How to Participate

Input can be provided through the following channels:

  • Survey – Take the online survey at Engage.MapleRidge.ca/Engagement-Framework by July 30 and enter to win a $50 gift card to a local business.
  • Pop-up Events – Share your thoughts at various events over the summer.

City staff will meet with diverse community groups, partners, and organizations over the summer.
