Maple Ridge, B.C., April 29, 2024 – Youth Week kicks off in Maple Ridge for local youth ages 12 to 18 with a week of fun activities including a skateboard competition and barbecue on May 1 and the popular Youth Talent Show on May 6.
This week-long celebration runs from May 1 to 7 and provides youth with the opportunity to take part in social and recreation activities, showcase their talents and make lasting memories.
"BC Youth Week is a great opportunity for us come together and celebrate the talent, energy and contributions of young people to our community," said Mayor Ruimy "The City is proud to support our youth by offering a range of engaging activities that promote wellness and social connection. We encourage all local youth to take advantage of these fun events and celebrate BC Youth Week with us!"
Here’s a full line-up of events:
- May 1 (3 to 5:00 p.m.) – BBQ and Skate Competition at Thomas Haney Action Park
Kick off Youth Week with a free barbecue and skateboard competition. - May 2 (7 to 9:00 p.m.) – Mexican Fiesta at Greg Moore Youth Centre
Enjoy traditional music, pinata and a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine. - May 3, (5 to 8 :00 p.m.) – Drop-in 3 on 3 Basketball Tourney at Cesquenela Elementary
Teams will battle it out in a fast-paced 3 on 3 basketball tournament. - May 4 (12 to 9:00 p.m.) – Free Fitness/Swimming at Maple Ridge Leisure Centre
Spend the day getting active with free access to fitness facilities and the swimming pool. - May 5 (7:00 p.m.) – Fireball Tournament at Greg Moore Youth Centre
Join us for Fireball, a dynamic game created by youth, for youth involving the pool tables. - May 6 (7:00 p.m.) – Youth Talent Show at the ACT Theatre
The highlight of Youth Week is the Youth Talent Show which showcases the diverse talents of young performers in our community, including theatre, dance, singing, acrobatics, and instrumental performances. Entry is by donation, with all proceeds supporting youth programs this summer. Families and friends are welcome to attend. - May 7 (6 to 9:30 p.m.) – Pickleball at Greg Moore Youth Centre
Wrap up Youth Week with this paddle sport, suitable for all skill levels.
“Youth Week is an opportunity to showcase all the positive things youth are doing in our community and to let them know that we are here to support them,” said Brian Patel, Youth Recreation Coordinator. “I encourage all youth to come and not miss out on the opportunity to have some fun.”
