1. Do I have to use my membership to pay for my GMYC Active Area timeslot?

No, you do not have to use your membership to pay for your timeslot. This program is being offered for FREE!

2. Why do I have to register for a GMYC Active Area timeslot instead of dropping in?

To ensure the safety of patrons, staff and our community registration for the GMYC Active Area is mandatory. Registration allows us to track who is in our building and when and to ensure maximum participation numbers are monitored. Controlling the access to a building/facility is a recommendation of the Provincial Health Officer and Worksafe BC.

3. How has the GMYC changed to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19?

New practices and procedures were created to ensure the safety of our patrons, community and staff. Some of the measures include:

• Increasing the distance between activities and equipment 
• Minimizing high touch points and gathering places (eliminating equipment, change rooms, water fountains, etc.)
• Reducing the number of patrons allowed in the GMYC Active Area at one time.

In addition to the measures taken above, there is increased COVID-19 related signage in the facility to ensure that all facility users are informed on signs, symptoms and risks of using the facility during the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. What do I need to bring to my registered GMYC Active Area timeslot?

We ask that you bring minimal items with you and your own equipment for the designated timeslot. There will be no access to lockers or cubbies. If you need to bring a bag, keep it small.

5. How do I gain access to the facility for my GMYC Active Area timeslot?

Customers should arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to their registered timeslot. Please wait on the designated physical distancing markers outside of the Greg Moore Youth Centre entrance doors. A  staff will welcome you into the facility at your designated time. As you enter the facility you will be reminded to sanitize and wash your hands frequently. 

6. Why are you only offering limited activities in the GMYC Active area?

Parks, Recreation & Culture staff are following the viaSport Activity Chart and gradually implementing activities/sports that have completed the Return to Sport Guidelines. The Activity Chart outlines what types of activities that can be considered for facilities as we transition through the various return stages.

7. Why are equipment and activities limited at this time at the GMYC?

To help mitigate the transmission of COVID-19, we are eliminating and/or reducing equipment in activities. 

8. What amenities will I have access to at the GMYC?

When I register for the Active Area at the GMYC, I will have access to:

• Accessible washroom

To reduce the amount of high touch points and gathering places, our team has reduced the amenities that patrons historically have had access to. Patrons will not be able to use the lockers, water fountains and water bottle refill station, lounge, kitchen, concession, skate/scoot tools, helmet rentals (Please Note: Helmets are mandatory for some activities so remember to bring your own).

9. Do I have to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) when I use the GMYC Active Area?

Wearing PPE is not required when entering the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre or GMYC Active Area. The choice of wearing PPE is up to the discretion of the individual. 

Facemasks and/or gloves can be worn to help protect you and those around you - you can learn more on the BC Centre for Disease Control website.

10. What do I do if I notice another participant who is not following the physical distancing rules or who is displaying symptoms of COVID-19?

If you notice another participant who is not following physical distancing rules or who may be displaying symptoms of COVID-19, please notify a staff member.

11. What will happen if a GMYC Active Area user shows signs of COVID-19?

If a patron is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, staff will ask that they do not enter the GMYC and self-isolate for the recommended 14 days.  A note will be made on the users account and they will be unable to register for any programs until their self-isolation is over.

12. If a GMYC Active Area user or staff has tested positive for COVID-19 will I be notified?

The City will support Public Health in communicating community transmission occurrences.

13. How do I register for a GMYC Active area timeslot if I have a Leisure Access Pass?

If you have a Leisure Access Pass and would like to register for a Day, you must call the registration line to register by phone at 604-467-7422. 

Support workers of Leisure Access Pass holders are required to register in addition to the participant.
