My neighbour's dog won't stop barking, what can I do?: While barking is an instinctive communication tool for the canine species, barking dogs can also become a nuisance to the surrounding neighbours. If there is a barking dog in your neighbourhood it may be in contravention of the City's Noise Control Bylaw.
Please note that in addition to your name, address and phone number (we do not accept anonymous complaints) we need to know where the dog(s) live, type of dog(s), description of dog(s), dates, times and duration of the barking. Dog Licences

1. Why do I need to licence my dog?: The City's Animal Control and Licencing Bylaw states that all dogs living in Maple Ridge must be licenced. Having a licence associated to your dog provides him / her with identification that may give Animal Control officers or city staff the information needed to notify you should they go missing. 2. If my dog is never out of the yard / house do they still need a licence?: Many of the dogs that are brought to the animal shelter are dogs that have never run loose before. Perhaps someone has opened your gate without you noticing or perhaps during a high wind your fence has blown down. During a storm or fireworks, many dogs who have become frightened run away from their home to escape whatever has scared them. Expect the unexpected and protect your dog with a dog licence.

3. How long is a dog licence valid for?: January 1 - December 31 of the current calendar year.

4. How much does a dog licence cost?: On or before January 31 of the current year, an altered dog licence is $25.00 or if you're a senior (65+) the cost is $12.50. If your dog is unaltered, the licence cost is $52.00 or if you're a senior the cost is $26.00.

On or after February 1 of the current year, an altered dog licence is $41.00 or if you're a senior (65+) the cost is $20.50. If your dog is unaltered, the licence cost is $68.00 or if you're a senior the cost is $34.00.

After July 1, with proof of purchase / adoption within the last 30 days, an altered dog licence is $12.50 or if the dog is unaltered, the licence cost is $26.00.

6. I have a guide / assistance dog; do I need to purchase a licence?: The owner of a Guide or Assistance Dog must provide satisfactory proof to the City of Maple Ridge as to the use of the dog for such purpose. Once satisfactory proof has been received, a licence will be issued for the dog at no charge.

7. What does my dog licence fee pay for?: It supports the return of pets to their owners and the adoption of homeless pets every year. 8. What are the hours and phone number for the local shelter?: The Maple Ridge SPCA operates Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm and is closed on statutory holidays. 9. I no longer own the dog, what should I do?: Contact the City's Bylaw, Licensing & Community Safety Department at 604-467-7384 or 604-467-7305 so that we can update our records.

10. Who can I report a lost dog to?: Contact the Maple Ridge SPCA right away at 604-463-9511. When dogs go missing usually the first place families search is the local SPCA. In most cases the sooner the SPCA is aware of a lost dog, the sooner it can be reunited with its owners.

11. Who do I report a dog off leash in an unpermitted area to?: Contact the Maple Ridge SPCA at 604-463-9511.

13. Can I let my dog run off leash in Maple Ridge?: No, the City of Maple Ridge does not allow dogs to run off-leash unless in one of our Dog Off Leash Parks
