Earlier this year The City of Maple Ridge was made aware of a business operating without a license in the Port Hammond neighbourhood. Residents reported repeated incidents of heavy trucks traversing through residential areas and there were a number of incidents where trucks slid off the road and encroached on private property.
The City refused to issue a license for the business because of the unsafe conditions related to the size and frequency of the vehicles being operated in the neighbourhood.
The City reached an agreement with the business to cease operations on June 15. The agreement was very strict about the time of day that the remaining materials could be removed from the property and the importance of following established routes in and out of the neighbourhood.
The City of Maple Ridge has received information that the business owner has violated the terms of the agreement and there have been a number of incidents of vehicles operating outside the hours prescribed in the agreement and vehicles operated in an unsafe fashion in neighbour streets outside the designated routes.
It is clear that the terms of the agreement have been violated and the City is now taking the following steps;
The City would like to thank the members of the neighbourhood who have remained vigilant as we have worked to close this illegal business down. We appreciate the patience of the immediate neighbourhood and encourage citizens to continue to report any infractions or incidents to the City Bylaws Department for action.
