Communications and Engagement

The City of Maple Ridge is committed to improving communications and engagement with our community. In 2022, the City developed a Corporate Communications and Public Engagement Strategy that established a specific set of actions to both help the City more effectively communicate with residents, as well as enhance how we engage with the community on projects, gather information and implement feedback.  Our aim is to ensure that the community is aware of City services and engaged in the decisions affecting them and that the organization is responsive to what it hears and works together with the community and partners to shape Maple Ridge’s future.  The following are some of the projects being rolled out.

Help Shape the City’s New Website

The City is developing a new website to meet the needs of a growing community. Maple Ridge residents, visitors and businesses were provided the opportunity to share their feedback by completing an online survey at engage.mapleridge.ca/website

Insights gathered through the survey will help shape the new website, to be launched in early 2024.

Along with a modern and fresh look, the new website will offer improved navigation, accessibility features, and a responsive design that works on all types of screens, making it easier for everyone to find information about City services, programs and events.

Community Engagement Framework

Effective community engagement is key to building a strong and vibrant community. Well-planned and authentic public engagement supports informed decision-making and better outcomes, and ensures members of the public are more informed and connected. The City is currently developing a Guide for Community Engagement and an Engagement Framework. The Guide and Framework will help staff develop community engagement opportunities that are consistent, meaningful and accessible. These documents will posted to this page when available.

Engage Maple Ridge

Our New Community Engagement Platform

Engage Maple Ridge is an online community engagement platform for encouraging public participation and promoting a two-way dialogue with the community. Information and feedback received through the platform will inform Council’s decisions on a wide variety of matters. The platform provides a range of options for feedback and discussion and will give the City a deeper understanding of the community’s priorities. The interactive tools available through Engage Maple Ridge include surveys, short polls, forums, mapping of relevant places, guestbooks and more.

International Association for Public Participation

Foundation for Community Engagement

The City uses the International Association for Public Participation's (IAP2) Spectrum of Public Participation to guide our engagement work and will also use it as a foundational element in the development of our Guide for Community Engagement and Engagement Framework. IAP2's Spectrum was designed to help select the level of participation that defines the public's role in any public participation process. The Spectrum is used internationally, and it is found in many community engagement plans.

Brand Reinvigoration Project

The City is undertaking a Brand Reinvigoration Project that aims to amplify Maple Ridge’s story.

A City’s brand is fundamental to its identity, shaping how it communicates and markets itself both at home and beyond. The project includes examining a number of relevant documents and studies that provide context and perspective. As part of the work, a series of discussion groups were held with City staff, representatives from the business community and local residents of diverse backgrounds to better understand perceptions and attitudes about the City’s image and reputation as well as gain insight to the attributes that help define Maple Ridge. The public was also provided the opportunity to share their feedback on the City's Engage Maple Ridge platform at engage.mapleridge.ca/citystory
