The City is planning to replace the sanitary sewer by pipe bursting in North Lane from 223 Street to 224 Street
The upsizing of the existing sanitary sewer is required to serve existing businesses and accommodate ongoing development in the area. The project entails the replacement and upsizing of pipe from 200mm diameter to 250mm in diameter for approximately 167 meters of sanitary sewer. Trenchless technology or pipe-bursting was selected as the appropriate sewer replacement method rather than the traditional open-cut method, due to several complex site constraints. Although pipe bursting is less intrusive than the open-cut method, the contractor will need to excavate entry and exit pits, as a result, traffic may be limited in the lane occasionally.
The contract has been awarded to PW Trenchless Construction Inc. and preliminary works will commence by the end of January 2019. Attempts will be made to minimize the impact to everyday traffic, residents, and businesses in the neighbourhood that access the lane.
