Jenny Tan

Councillor Jenny Tan entered public service to bring real change for regular people. Before being elected to Council in Maple Ridge, she worked to make active transportation safer for residents and an economic asset to communities as a director of a non-profit organization. When she served as the director of business development of an agency, she worked with major clients such as the Port of Vancouver, the BC Lottery Corporation, and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

In her volunteer roles, Councillor Tan has focused on tackling the housing crisis. She is the host of 'Should I Stay or Should I Go?’, a podcast that examines the roots of the housing crisis, with guests such as the former BC Housing Minister. Councillor Tan sees generating strong local economic development, enabling more affordable housing, and strengthening our public and active-transportation networks as key approaches to tackling climate change.

A Hammond resident, Councillor Tan remains rooted in key values that keep her grounded - deep respect for the natural beauty Maple Ridge is blessed with, service to the community, and joy. She previously sang with the Maple Ridge Choral Society, can often be found walking on the City’s trail network, and loves creating all types of art. Councillor Tan holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of British Columbia.
