We have a comprehensive Employee Appreciation and Recognition Framework to support our commitment to value employees for their contributions, including activities that foster everyday appreciation and recognition, organization-wide appreciation, and employee milestone celebrations.
Our robust learning and development strategy is augmented by an annual training catalogue that offers courses for leadership development, professional development, technological skill development, inclusion excellence training, and wellness-related training. We encourage employees to seek out n training opportunities to support growth and advancement, in which employees may be eligible for tuition reimbursement. We focus on the development of our employees and offer several formal and informal programs that provide opportunities for mentorship, coaching, and acting assignments.

A cross-departmental committee leads this work and hosts regular inclusion experience events to foster discussions on diversity initiatives.
We have a variety of flexible work schedule programs and pilots for eligible employees, such as earned days off, job sharing, compressed work weeks, and varied shift schedules. We have a telework policy for our employees in our CUPE and Exempt groups that allows remote work up to 3 days a week if deemed operationally feasible.
We offer extended health and dental benefits for our employees in the CUPE, IAFF, and Exempt groups. Eligibility for extended health and dental benefits is described in the relevant collective agreement.
We acknowledge that health and safety is everyone’s responsibility and support this through a commitment to health and safety programming, incident monitoring, training, and quality assurance. We have three joint occupational health and safety committees that actively work to ensure a collaborative approach to fostering a safe and healthy work environment.
We participate in the Municipal Pension Plan, in which eligible employees in the CUPE, IAFF, and Exempt groups are enrolled as described in their relevant collective agreement.
We offer several paid and unpaid time-off options to support our employees, including vacation, lieu-time, sick leave, and leaves of absence.
We have two collective agreements describing our union employees’ employment conditions. These collective agreements are for CUPE Local 622 and IAFF Local 4449.
We have a cross-departmental committee that steers the work of employee wellness, including fulsome programs like the Employee Assistance Program, fitness membership rebates, walking groups, and regular wellness workshops and events.
