Karina Leblanc Field

The contractor achieved “substantial performance” in early April, a major milestone for completion on this project. Soon after soccer practices and school classes were taking place on the field with community sports allocation beginning on the weekend. A grand opening event will take place in the near future once a date is confirmed.

Construction Update - October

Construction is back in progress (PDF) at the Karina LeBlanc Synthetic Field at Merkley Park, after weather delays last week.

The contractor is now installing the last manholes for the storm water system and preparing the field subgrade. Erosion and sediment controls have been increased on the site due to the recent heavy rainfall.

Karina Leblanc Field Groundbreaking - August

On Monday, August 14, 2017 a groundbreaking event was held with representatives of the Government of Canada, City of Maple Ridge and School District No. 42 for this new synthetic field. This field is being named for former Maple Ridge Secondary alumni, Olympic Bronze Medalist and UNICEF ambassador Karina LeBlanc.

Design Development - July

Detailed design and project tendering was completed through summer.

Open House - June

Maple Ridge Parks, Recreation & Culture hosted an open house on June 8, 2017 to present the proposed Merkley Park Synthetic Field concept plans. You can also view the Presentation Boards (PDF) that were discussed at the open house. Check back for future project updates throughout the summer as construction progresses.

Lion's Park

May 2018 - Completed

Come check out the newly installed basketball court, pump track  and junior scooter course at Lion's Park (12100 Laity Street). This project was part of a life-cycle replacement of the old tennis and basketball courts that needed to be repaired. Community consultations suggested the idea that a pump track and scooter course would be a great fit for the neighbourhood.

Spring 2018 - Construction

Construction has started on the new pump track, junior scooter course and basketball court. The construction is expected to finish by the end of May, depending on the weather. 

October 2017 - Design Development

Detailed design and project tendering will be completed over the next few months with construction anticipated to start in Spring 2018.

September 2017 - Open House

Maple Ridge Parks, Recreation & Culture hosted a drop-in open house on September 7, 2017 to present the concept plan for a renovation to the sports court at Lions Park. You can also view the presentation boards from the open house.

2015 - Concept

Initial neighbourhood consultation was done in 2015. Input garnered from the previous consultation was used to develop the concept plan.

Lions Park Pump Track

Alouette Park Playground

The playground renovation in Alouette Park is complete! Accessible pathways have been installed to the ramp leading to the second level of the new play structure and to the ground level play components.
The new playground provides more accessibility and has a new “Spinning Sensory Wave Seat” and the “Zero –G” swing chair. Some of the other features include a curved balancing beam, “Wave Slides” and the “River Rock Climber”. The swing set consists of two regular swings, a toddler swing and an inclusive “Zero – G” swing chair.
