October 17, 2017, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ The ACT Art Gallery
Contemporary First Nations artists, Sonny Assu, Corey Moraes, Carrielynn Victor, and Brandon Gabriel all feature an intriguing blend of traditional and contemporary storytelling in their artwork. In bridging modern attitudes with ancestral beliefs, their stories ensure that a provocative First Nations perspective is given voice within the myriad of Canada 150 celebrations taking place in 2017. Ensuring that ‘truth’ is recognized as the prelude to reconciliation, these artists render comic-book characters, super heroes, mythical beings and graffiti-inspired narratives as a critical and often humourous means of sharing both their personal and ancestral Modern Legends.
Saturday, September 9th from 2:00 pm–4:00 pm
Funding for this exhibition was provided in part by the Government of Canada with addition support from the City of Maple Ridge and the Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows News.
