Whonnock Lake

Whonnock Lake Whonnock Lake

Municipal Park | East Area

Home of the world's largest tadpoles, found in the shallow water around the shores of the lake. These little critters are interesting to watch as they pass through the last stages from eggs to full-fledged adult frogs. Whonnock Lake is a typical bog lake of the coastal forest region. It is home to native plants and thriving colonies of beavers and muskrats, as well as to breeding populations of loons, mallard ducks, and numerous small birds. The lake is stocked annually with rainbow trout, and supports a substantial recreational fishery. This popular year-round playground offers canoeing, swimming, hiking, and nature study.
