Appointments to Advisory Committees

Content

Standing Committees are established by the Mayor for matters considered best dealt with by committee. At least half the members of a standing committee must be Council members. The Standing Committees are:

  • Audit and Finance Committee
  • Committee of the Whole

Select Committees and Commissions are established by the Mayor to consider or inquire into any matter and to report its findings and opinion to Council. Generally, at least one member of a select committee or commission must be a Council member. The Select Committees and Commissions are:

  • Advisory Design Panel
  • Agricultural Advisory Committee
  • Bicycle Advisory Committee (MR/PM)
  • Community Heritage Commission
  • Economic Advisory Commission
  • Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues
  • Parcel Tax Review Panel
  • Parks & Leisure Services Commission (MR/PM)
  • Policing Task Force (MR/PM)
  • Public Art Steering Committee
  • Social Planning Advisory Committee (MR/PM)

Advisory Design Panel

Maple Ridge Advisory Design Panel provides independent advice on the design of development proposals in the community. Currently a non-voting District liaison sits on the panel.

Agricultural Advisory Committee

The Agricultural Advisory Committee mandate is the continued support of agriculture as a land use and economic activity within the Community.

Audit and Finance Committee

The Audit and Finance Committee reviews the financial statement and report, ensures that appropriate systems of internal control are implemented and that the information in the Municipality's annual report is accurate, complete and fairly presents the financial position.

Bicycle Advisory Committee

The Bicycle Advisory Committee (Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows) provides advice on cycling issues in the communities and implementation of the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Bikeways Plan.

Committee of the Whole

Committee of the Whole is the initial venue for review and debate of issues. No voting takes place on bylaws or resolutions. A decision is made to send an item to Council for debate and vote or to send an item back to staff for more information or clarification.

Community Heritage Commission

The Community Heritage Commission advises Council on matters relating to heritage conservation.

Economic Advisory Commission

The Economic Advisory Commission is an advisory body on matters relating to the economic development of the District.

Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues

The Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues advises Council on civic matters which affect people with disabilities

Parcel Tax Review Panel

The Parcel Tax Roll Review Panel is established pursuant to s. 204 of the Community Charter. It was formerly known as the Court of Revision.

Parks & Leisure Services Commission

The Parks and Leisure Services Commission (Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows)has the responsibility for the direct delivery of leisure services to residents and, for entering into agreements and contractural obligations within the limitations of approved budgets to deliver services through various groups, agencies and businesses.

Policing Task Force

Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows share police services. The Policing Task Force includes representation from both municipalities and allows a forum to address policing matters of common interest.

The Public Art Steering Committee recommends criteria for the commission of public art installations to Maple Ridge Council.
