topAbernethy Way between 232 Street and 224 Street Watermain Replacement
Metro Vancouver is working in cooperation with the District of Maple Ridge and the City of Pitt Meadows to undertake a major water utility infrastructure project involving the construction of a large pump station and watermains. The new system will connect to the existing Metro Vancouver reservoir servicing Maple Ridge as well as providing new connections directly into the District of Maple Ridge water distribution system. Collectively, these projects are known as The Ridge Water Utility Projects (RWUP) and will meet the growing water demands for Maple Ridge, Surrey and Langley.
Starting in mid-November 2011, a Metro Vancouver contractor will be installing a new watermain on Abernethy Way between 232 Street and 224 Street. View the Map.
Watermain installation on Abernethy Way is expected to take approximately two to three weeks per 300 metre section. As installation progresses, the affected areas will be backfilled and temporarily restored. Final restoration for this first phase is scheduled for spring 2012.
For further information please visit the Metro Vancouver website and select the Ridge Water Utility Project "dot" located on the regional map.
topAlouette Rivers Floodplain
The "North Alouette and South Alouette Rivers' Assessment and Floodplain Analysis" study has been awarded to Northwest Hydraulic Consultants. The consultant assembled a strong team of engineers and specialists, and completed a strong science-based hydraulic modelling of the floodplain area, complemented by a detailed hydrologic analysis, with a spotlight on the prediction of relatively frequent floods as well as extreme events. All three phases of the study are complete and the consultant is preparing the final report. The ultimate goal of the modelling will be to provide the community with a tool to aid in the understanding of flood issues and the knowledge to use this tool to develop community driven solutions to flood problems. Meeting notes, reports and Workshops are available online.
topDewdney Trunk Road Watermain Replacement (Laity St to 216 St)
The existing 200mm diameter watermain on Dewdney Trunk Road, from Laity Street to 216 Street, has been identified in the Capital Works Program to be replaced in 2011. Aplin & Martin Consultants Ltd. has been engaged by the District to design the watermain replacement. The contractor for this project, Columbia Bitulithic/Lafarge is responsible to maintain and protect all disturbed features within the works. Traffic management devices including signing, pavement markings, flexible drums and tubular markers will be maintained through the winter shutdown period. The Ministry anticipates that construction work will resume in late February 2012, and to complete by March 31, 2012.

topMountain View Cres/122 Ave Road Improvements
The District has planned road improvements for Mountain View Crescent/122 Avenue from 216 Street to 222 Street. The scope of this project includes the widening of Mountain View Crescent/122 Avenue to improve pedestrian and cycling access and repaving of the roadway. We appreciate the comments provided by residents at our last Open House. These comments have now been incorporated into our final design and a new projected project cost was calculated. Unfortunately, the new projected project cost is above our original cost estimate and current budget. Given the higher projected cost, the District coul only construct the intersection improvements at 216 Street and 121 Avenue in 2011. The remainder of the project will not proceed until the summer of 2012, pending new budget approvals. We will be hosting another Open House in the new year to share the final design. An invitation letter will be sent for the Open House.
topRiver Road Storm Sewer and Road Improvements
An initiative was directed by Council in April 2007 to pursue a project to install storm sewers on River Road as a Local Area Service (LAS) and submit a grant application for funding assistance from the Provincial and Federal Governments. During June, the District was advised that request for funding assistance was not granted and Council received a petition from 75 percent of the area residents requesting that municipal funds be allocated to the implementation of the improvements.
As a result, Council passed the following resolutions:
- That upon receipt of a formal response from the Provincial Government in regard to a infrastructure grant request for River Road, staff is to hold a public information meeting for residents; and
- That the local improvement process previously directed by Council not be pursued; and
- That the results of the Golder Associates study currently underway be used as input to address future priorities for the area; and
- That the recommendations from the Golder Associates study be brought forward as part of the 2008 business planning process; and further
- That this information be released to the public in the correspondence informing the residents of the proposed meeting.
On July 26, 2007 an information meeting View the presentation [PDF, 772KB] was held to provide background on the:

- District's capital works program,
- phasing of storm sewer improvements on River Road,
