The Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues (MACAI) advises Municipal Council on civic matters which affect people with disabilities. MACAI strives to remove the social, physical and psychological barriers that prevent people from fully participating in all aspects of community life. The Committee's focus is to create equal access in the areas of employment, education, housing, transportation and recreation. Projects include sensitivity training for municipal staff and residents creating a greater awareness regarding accessibility issues, public facility design consultations, and an annual award program. The Committee includes five local residents, eight representatives from government and community agencies, and two Municipal Councillors one from Maple Ridge and one from Pitt Meadows.
The Committee is appointed by Council and representatives include: Councillor Al Hogarth, Maple Ridge Council Liaison; Councillor Bruce Bell, Pitt Meadows Council Liaison; Greg Turnbull, John Kanjer, Danielle Foulds, Maria Kovacs, John Ricketts, Kimberly Hoffman, Joylene MacBurnie and various representatives from government and community agencies. Amelia Bowden and Shelley Jorde are the Municipal staff liaisons.
