Dr. Kent Mullinix of the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security Faculty of Kwantlen Polytechnic University gave a talk in the Maple Ridge Council Chambers on March 1, 2011. His presentation [PDF, 3.04MB] focused on the future of agriculture and the role of municipalities in promoting greater food security. The Maple Ridge Agricultural Advisory Committee will follow up on his ideas in future meetings.
On December 15, 2009 Council endorsed the Agricultural Plan [PDF, 622 KB]. The District of Maple Ridge wishes to acknowledge the financial assistance of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC for making this Agricultural Plan possible. Draft 2 Situational Analysis [PDF, 2.13MB] (Part 1 of the Agricultural Plan) The Agricultural Advisory Committee consists of between thirteen (13) and sixteen (16) members. Eight (8) of these members are appointed by the District of Maple Ridge Council. Councillor Cheryl Ashlie and Councillor Robert Masse are the Council liaison members for this committee. The remaining representatives are nominated and appointed by their respective agencies, organizations, and governments.
