The City is upsizing the existing sanitary sewer trunk main that services the Albion Industrial Area and southern Albion residential area to accommodate future development in Albion. The majority of the sanitary sewer main has been systematically replaced over the last four years. All that remains is upsizing of the last six sections from McKay Avenue to 530m north of McKay Avenue. The project entails the replacement and upsizing of pipe from 375mm diameter to 600mm diameter for approximately 530 metres at a depth of 5 metres.
Trenchless technology (pipe-bursting) was selected as the appropriate sewer replacement method rather than the traditional open-cut method due to several complex site constraints. Although pipe bursting is less intrusive than open-cut method, the contractor will need to excavate entry and exit pits and reconnect existing service connections to the new sewer main. As a result, traffic may be limited occasionally to single lane alternating.
Construction will commence in April 2019 and is expected to be completed in July 2019.
Attempts will be made to minimize the impact to everyday traffic, residents, and businesses in the neighbourhood. River Road is expected to remain open to traffic throughout the construction.
