Employee Development
Excellence in Human Resources starts by recruiting and promoting the best people into the wide array of jobs in the City. After we recruit, screen and hire the right people, we make sure the organization is focused on the overall vision and goals by ensuring each employee has an individual performance plan that defines and describes the their role in achieving the department's work plan. Human Resources facilitates many focus groups that provide employees with the opportunity to provide input to strategic planning and bring forward operational improvements that they see as they perform their duties and interact with colleagues and the public.
Individual performance plans provide an opportunity for the employee and their supervisor to identify growth and development needs. Staff development is supported through internal and external training and project opportunities.
Programs
To promote efficiency, accountability, productivity and the well being of City staff, Human Resources administers the Attendance Support Program, employee assistance programs, occupational health and safety programs, employee recognition programs and employee welfare benefits administration. This team is also responsible for the administration of the payroll system, including the tracking of attendance and vacations.
