Maple Ridge is located approximately 52km east of Vancouver, Maple Ridge is nestled between the Coast Mountains and the confluence of the Pitt, Stave and Fraser Rivers. The North and South Alouette Rivers also flow through Maple Ridge providing rich soil for agriculture and a wide variety of opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Access to the communities is by the Pitt River Bridge in the west, Golden Ears Bridge to the south and two roads, Dewdney Trunk Road and Lougheed Highway (Hwy 7) to the east. The eastern routes are bisected by the Stave Falls Dam and Stave River system.
The community experiences a moderate coastal climate characterized by small seasonal variations in temperature and the forested landscape is conducive to a variety of recreational pursuits and activities.
All of this makes Maple Ridge an excellent place to live, work and enjoy the outdoors. It also poses certain risk factors that the municipality has worked to address by conducting a Hazard Risk Vulnerability Analysis. This assessment identifies the risk that each hazard presents to the area thereby allowing the Joint Emergency Program to plan for mitigation, response and recovery efficiently.
